It's likely It ate whatever it could. If it had its choice between wasting energy hunting and not wasting any energy scavenging then it would probably scavenge. But if there were no dead thing around it would probably hunt.

I completely agree. Carnivores do what they have to to survive, and would rather not waste energy.

why is it that we can't get our heads around t rex not being a pretodor? its like, if something was big and heavy, it must be a pretodor. it's werid.
and i think that it was a ambush pretodor, but mostly took dead bodys, as its wasent desgined for speed.

I just saw a show on the science channel called Dinos V.S. Mammals, and it had a convincing view of Tyrannosaurus. It showed the entir family working together, juviniles chasing the prey into the open jaws of the adults. It is pretty impressive.
